Nationally known hunter Mike Roux published a recent article in a local Missouri newspaper detailing his turkey hunt using a KillZone 2-man chair blind. Missouri is known for its excellent turkey hunting, although the birds are tough to bring down. Roux set his sights on a property in NE Missouri, where he had hunted before as a guide and hunter.

Roux said, “I had the toms pretty well patterned and was confident I could get with one. Especially since I had a great KILLZONE 2-Chair Blind set in just the right spot. This blind is perfect for the turkey hunter because it is compact yet roomy and easy to move if you need to.”

The morning was near-perfect for hunting, with a temperature around 40 degrees and a not-yet-turned-under alfalfa field where Roux pitched his blind and placed his decoys. After a few unsuccessful attempts to call in a few toms, Roux made an executive decision: “I had to move. I packed up my KILLZONE blind, which took all of 60 seconds, grabbed my decoys and headed to the southwest corner of the field. I had called in a huge gobbler there back in the youth season. This bird was not killed and not even shot at, so I knew this was a good spot. I was set up and was calling within minutes.”

The result was immediate success. A tom gobbled within minutes to validate the move. “My blind was set perfectly and my decoys were exactly where they needed to be,” Roux said. The tom gobbled again a few minutes later, and then two toms strutted out into the open, crossed the field, and began to engage the decoys. Within minutes, Roux bagged a 25-pound longbeard.

KillZone Double Chair Blind Reviews

“Easy to set up – quick to break down and great price…did tear at two spots but more my fault about where I set up and the limbs puncturing the fabric…great sight lines and a comfortable hunting blind.”
- John R.

“Great product and awesome buying experience. Product is as perfectly advertised and of high quality. I looked at Ameristep and a few other brands and I am quite happy with this instead at a much better price.”
- John H.

“I was debating whether to buy this one or the single person chair. I have two boys who I am starting to take hunting when it’s not too cold or they have to get up too early. (Their conditions!) Anyway I was afraid the two person would be too heavy to carry along with my backpack and gun when I was by myself. I used it for the first time Thanksgiving week and was very impressed. I carried it along with my other gear with no problem. The only thing that I didn’t like was the backpack style straps are too far apart to sit on your shoulders. This wasn’t much problem though as I already had on a backpack. I just slung one strap over my shoulder and it carried very well like a duffel bag. My brother in-law has the single seat model and after seeing the roominess of mine wishes he had purchased the two man also. As far as concealment, I had a deer walk down the trail within twenty feet of me until I made a noise and spooked it. Arrgh! Overall I think it is a great value for the money!!”
- “Desprtsman”

“They shipped to me twice; the first time I did not receive the item (lost or stolen mail) but I made them aware of it and they shipped me another ASAP. I love the blind…high quality…going to work out great for Kentucky spring turkey season. Gobble gobble.”

What happens when a nationally known hunter takes a KillZone blind into the field? Hunter Mike Roux reports on his success with the 360 KillZone Blind and the 2 Shooter Chair Hunting Blind:

“The 360 KillZone blind performed great in the field. It is convenient and easy to carry and goes up quickly. The 360 degree view really helps on turkey hunts in the timber. The configuration of the net screens and windows is very good and would be great for the archery hunter as well. I also used the KillZone Double Chair blind to film a successful hunt earlier in the week. This blind is a MUST for the hunting video guys. The combination of these two products makes me more productive than any others have in the past. My grade for these blinds is an A+.”

How is a chair blind different from a regular hunting blind?

A chair blind is an all-in-one hunting chair and pop up blind. The built-in chair is covered by a tent canopy that folds over the top and completely covers the chair. There are windows on three sides of the tent, with a black backdrop behind the hunter or photographer for concealment.

Why a chair blind?

An all-in-one chair and blind means that you have fewer items to carry with you to the setup location. This makes it easier (and lighter) to carry all the rest of your hunting or photography equipment.

How difficult is it to set up a chair blind?

It’s easy! Just set up the chair, fold the canopy over the top, and stake down the blind to keep it from getting picked up by the wind.

Does it have scent control?

Yes, the KillZone One Man Chair Blind and Two Man Chair Blind both have a scentless carbon protected interior. They also have a scent flap around the bottom of the blind to keep your scent inside the blind. For further scentproofing, let the blind sit outside for a few days to naturalize the odor. Some hunters like to “mud” their blinds for better camo and scent protection.

Is it waterproof?

Most chair blinds are water-repellent and are designed to shed rain and snow. In a heavy downpour, they may allow some water to seep into the blind; however, in most rainy weather, you will stay dry and snug inside the blind.

Is it fire resistant?

We do not recommend using a portable heater inside the blind, nor do we recommend shooting through the mesh with a firearm. Any heat source or open flame creates a fire hazard. Use caution and common sense to prevent creating any fire hazard in or near the blind.

Can I keep it out all season?

Chair hunting blinds are made to withstand the elements for a short period of time. Keeping your blind outside for longer than a week can take a toll on the tent fabric, protective coatings, and support structure of the blind. If you want to keep your blind out for months at a time, we recommend building a permanent hunting blind.

a

“I’ve had one of these chairs for nearly two years now, am generally very impressed with it. I’m a big guy…6ft tall and 275 pounds. After using it for my wildlife photography probably 40 times, I finally broke one of the grommets on the chair seat. Having said that, I’m ready to order another one, because it’s WAY better the first “cheapo” camo-chair that I had before (it only lasted for about 10 sessions before completely collapsing, and it didn’t have as much camo coverage.

This product was clearly designed by someone who uses it. It has plenty of room in front of the seat for a gear-bag, and with two zippers on each window you have good flexibility with creating right-sized peepholes. Although I haven’t tested water-tightness myself, it looks like it should hold up well (certainly with a little CampDry sprayed on the fabric). It’s very easy to pack and unpack, a quick-disconnect belt (sewn to the fabric) wraps around the unit once the spring-metal frame is compressed. The carrying bag even has backpack straps, but you may want to add your own bungee cord across your chest to keep the strap from sliding off your shoulders.”

Turret XL Blind

“Couldn’t be more please with my purchase. Forget the instructions, watch the online video…and it is as easy to put up as the guys show. Very study, water repellent just enough room for two people. Shooting through the screens works like they say. Doesn’t affect your arrow trajectory. Also impressed with shipping and tracking info that is emailed to me at every step of the way.”
- Jim A., Colorado

“This is the first blind that I have owned and I could not be happier. This blind is so easy to set up that it took me all of 60 seconds out of the box on the first try. The inside is very roomy and fit me and my two boys 17 and 15. I think the construction is of great quality and will stand up to many years of hunting. Opening morning we had 3 bucks 6 does, one coyote and a turkey walk right by us. You could not beat the price for this blind based on the size and quality. If you are looking for a high quality blind do not hesitate purchasing this one.”
- J. Ryan

“We were very pleased with the blind. We ordered it for our son for Christmas and then ordered another for my husband after seeing the first one.”

2 Person Chair Blind

We sat for a couple hours through a thunder storm and it had only a few slow leaks. I had to reinforce the stitching on the “chair leg holders”, because it was not quite strong enough and coated outside cover with a water repellent spray. I like the versatility of this stand good color pattern, and quite comfortable, I may add. Well worth the money I paid for it. They just need to put more or use heaver stitching.”

Pop Up Blind

“Great blind for the price. It is light so it may need staked down. Plenty of room and easy to set up. Velcro on the windows are loud.”
- S. Mishler

“Great product–fits my turkey and deer hunting blind needs!! Like the light weight-14 lbs.”

Layout Blind

“Had problem with push buttons on head rest and a fiber connector snapping in extreme cold. Customer service was pleasant and responsive and replaced with new blind. Would recommend.”
- D. Jones

“It is a good product. It works like they say it does and does the job. The only thing is its not made for healthy people. By that I mean us more rotund fat boys. I can barely close the flaps all the way and be comfortable. Other than that no complaints at all.”

Looking for the best hunting blind for you? Here are some guidelines on what to look for when you’re ready to shop for a portable hunting blind.

Size and Dimensions

The Turret XL Blind is large enough for two hunters or for bringing the kids.

How large the blind needs to be depends on how you hunt (gun or bow) and how many people you hunt with (solo, double, with kids, etc). Is the blind big enough to shoulder a gun or draw a bow? Factor in things like width, length, height, and window height. The Turret, Turret XL, and 360 Blind from KillZone Hunting are all large enough for bowhunters.

a

If you hunt with other people, is there enough room for more than one hunter, including all of your gear? Tight quarters can cramp your shot.

Size also affects your profile. A low-profile blind is better for use in areas with low-lying vegetation. In the woods and areas with taller vegetation, a high profile is easy enough to hide.

Camouflage Patterns

Ground blinds come in all different camouflage patterns. Most are an “all-purpose” camo to blend in with a variety of the most typical hunting areas. Others are specific to the landscape, such as grasslands or prairie, desert or dry areas, and snow. Match the camouflage to the natural vegetation of your area. Then customize the camo pattern by brushing in the blind with branches, grass, and local vegetation.

The 360 Hunting Blind eliminates blind spots with visibility all the way around.

Visibility

Some blinds (such as a chair blind) are designed with windows on three sides. These are best when you only need to see out the front and sides. Other blinds have visibility on all sides with a combination of large mesh windows, slotted windows, and portal windows. A few blinds even have a zippered roof hatch for waterfowl hunting and improved ventilation. The coveted 360 ground blind has one window all the way around the blind for an obstructed view in any direction.

a

Weight

If you pack in to your hunting spot, consider the weight of the blind you’ll be carrying, along with the weight of all your hunting gear and supplies. You can easily find a hunting blind under 15 pounds. Look for one that folds into a backpack or carry bag for hands-free carrying.

Without good cover, your chances of bagging a turkey are pretty slim, especially in open terrain. That’s why a ground blind is a turkey hunter’s best friend. It sets up quick and easy, gives you convenient cover wherever you need it, and breaks up your outline even in the open field.

a

Why Use a Ground Blind?

There are a lot of benefits to turkey hunting from a ground blind. Sitting in a blind is much more comfortable than lying on your stomach in the field or leaning against a tree. Plus, it’s never much fun to sit in the rain or the cold wind, but with a hunting blind, you can stay out in the field while other hunters head home to escape the bad weather.

Stay Hidden

Set up some decoys near the blind and fill the stubble straps with nearby vegetation to distract the turkeys from your blind. Some hunters say that unlike deer, turkeys will strut within inches of their blind without paying it the least bit of attention.

Bring the Kids

Ground blinds are also great for taking kids out with you. Younger kids have the freedom to move around or take a nap inside the blind. Ground blinds are also great for using video cameras. You can easily film the hunt from inside the blind.

Super cool blind. I’m a outdoors photography fan, and I have a bunch of friends that loves hunting, the deer season just started, I got me the Canon 300 mm f/2.8 (super cool lens) and my biggest concern of this product was the inside space, Well let me tell you some thing, you have plenty for a long lens, monopod, pro camera and your camera bag. This weekend I’ll go to test it in a hunting ranch in Mexico, to try it in real live and I’m sure it will perform fantastic. The assembly’s system couldn’t be easier “dumb proof”, just pool the blind out of it bag, pull and play. For wild life photography is a great asset.

Nice two man blind for the money. I have not had a chance to use it hunting this year. Purchased it after hunting season. But I used a one man version from a competitor and found it to be a must for deer hunting. I like the KillZone material better and that is why I purchased their brand.
