Camp Voyageur Kids Winter Retreat

Boys and Girls Camp Voyageur hunting blind

How many kids can you fit in a KillZone Turret hunting blind?

This past December, the KillZone Hunting team worked together to collect clothes and money for the Boys and Girls Club of Minnesota. The club hosted a 2-day winter camp on December 26-27 at Camp Voyageur in Mound, MN, where at-risk youth could get away from the pressures of life at home and enjoy being out in nature.

Some of these kids don’t have a lot, so the opportunity to come to a camp like this is a huge treat. The program director sent us the following summary of the retreat:

“Winter camp was a huge success! Twenty-five campers camped out and enjoyed two fun-filled days at Voyageur. They participated in outdoor survival class, learned about birds and took a nature hike up to our Chick-kitty landing, and were able to sit and have birds land on their heads! They also did some animal tracking and were able to hike across the lake into the other 30 acres we own, called New New England. While they were across the lake, they were able to find coyote tracks and check out the beaver dam. They also enjoyed making their own pizzas for dinner.”

Also, as you can see by the picture above, the kids were having fun in an “8-person” Turret blind???

Open Woods Camo Pattern in Action

We love hearing from our customers! Thanks to Matt for sending us this note about his new Turret Pop-Up ground blind from KillZone Hunting:

“I posted some pics of the Open Woods camo on AT.com from when I was out hunting yesterday. This has to be one of the best camo patterns available for hunting blinds.”

Matt is a bowhunter who bought one of our KillZone Turret ground blinds with the new Open Woods camo pattern. The Turret blind is small enough to blend in easily with its surroundings but large enough for drawing a bow. Matt said, “There’s enough room to draw inside for one hunter. If you sit more towards the corner you get a little more space.”

Deer hunting success

“Taken last weekend from my Turret XL in the pouring rain and slushy snow. It was too ugly to sit on a stand, so the KillZone was the only way I was going to go out that afternoon. Thank goodness I’d done some minor repairs to it from last winter’s blizzard and had it set up and waiting…sat for two hours before the deer started coming out…grunted this one away from a doe across the field and shot him just before he climbed in the blind with me…lol.

Thanks KillZone for giving me a dry roof over my head last Saturday!”

The following KillZone customer sent in a picture of his first kill from his new Turret XL ground blind. Here’s what he had to say:

“A few months ago I purchased my blind from you and on the first morning of our turkey season it was raining as we placed the blind at the end of a field. In less than one hour setting and calling from my nice and dry ground blind, we both killed a “double” at just 15yrds from the blind!

Great product…Can’t wait till deer season now!”

Thanks KillZone,

Hunter Mike Roux Puts KillZone Blinds to the Test

Mike Roux

Nationally known hunter Mike Roux

What happens when a nationally known hunter takes a KillZone blind into the field? Hunter Mike Roux reports on his success with the 360 KillZone Blind and the 2 Shooter Chair Hunting Blind:

“The 360 KillZone blind performed great in the field. It is convenient and easy to carry and goes up quickly. The 360 degree view really helps on turkey hunts in the timber. The configuration of the net screens and windows is very good and would be great for the archery hunter as well. I also used the KillZone Double Chair blind to film a successful hunt earlier in the week. This blind is a MUST for the hunting video guys. The combination of these two products makes me more productive than any others have in the past. My grade for these blinds is an A+.”

Mike Roux is a nationally known outdoorsman and accomplished outdoor writer. He is currently Regional Editor for Outdoor Guide Magazine and the author of turkey hunting book If You Call Them…They Will Come.

KillZone Layout Blinds Used for Guided Duck Hunts

Scott Baker from Delta Duck Hunters shooting from a KillZone layout blind.

If you’ve ever been on a guided duck hunt with Trophys Unlimited or Delta Duck Hunters, most likely you’ve used one of our blinds. Jay Cranford, a professional hunting guide and owner of Trophys Unlimited and Delta Duck Hunters, gears up for his hunting expeditions with KillZone layout blinds.

For one, these blinds are comfortable for long waits, with extra-thick bottom padding and a thickly padded seat and headrest. They are quick to set up and durable enough to withstand heavy use in the field (which is especially important for a guide service). Plus, they offer the same features and quality of the big name brands, but at a much lower price.

Here’s what Jay had to say about our layout blinds:

“The KillZone layout blinds are without a doubt the best blinds for the money on the market today! One minute setup right out of the box and tough enough to handle the abuse that mother nature and hunters dish out!”

Hunting Blind Review for Turret XL Zero Detect

The Zero Detect camo blends in with wooded areas as well as lush green ones (see below).

The Zero Detect camo blends in with wooded areas as well as lush green ones (see below).

Thanks to Travis of north Florida for this review of the Turret XL Zero Detect hunting blind, posted on the Archery Talk forum!

There was good reasoning behind my wanting to try a ground blind this hunting season. I have used them in the past, for bow and gun hunting, but only during Spring gobbler season. I hunt in North Florida, and the season date changes this year were dramatic. I noticed very quickly that several aspects of my hunting routine were about to follow suit. The tree canopy around my creek stand is simply too thick and green in early September. My answer…a ground blind!

I found the ground blinds from www.killzonehunting.com online and they immediately peaked my interest. I could not afford some of the available blinds, and did not want something that would not be of good quality. These blinds are apparently in high demand as well, so I had to settle with ordering the Turret XL over the 360 model, since I insisted on the Zero Detect camo.

I received the blind within just a couple of days, not bad for free shipping! From the outside in, I will give you my opinions on the complete assembly.

The shoulder straps on the Turret XL’s carrying bag were cushioned and comfortable. This makes it very nice to carry in and out of the woods and leave your hands free for other items. I can even pack the blind on my back and still sling my bow. I first set the blind up in my back yard to test it out a little, get accustomed to shooting from it, and also to let it air out a day or two before placing it in the woods.

The Zero-Detect blind blends in well with greens as well as browns and grays.

The Zero-Detect blind blends in well with greens as well as browns and grays.

Once I found where I wanted to locate the blind near the creek and white oaks on my property, I cleared a spot under a palm tree that allowed for a backdrop and some natural shooting lanes. The exterior of the blind is constructed of a non-sheen material so it does not have the glossy look of some blinds in the woods. The blind has a strip sewn in around the circumference of the top that helps in brushing the blind itself in. A few well-placed limbs in front also seem to help break up any outline.

I was amazed at how well the Zero Detect camo blends in with multiple surroundings. It blended with the floor of this ecotone area as well as it did on the wood line behind my house. I placed a solid plastic chair inside the blind and can easily keep my bow in its holder, with a nocked arrow. There would be plenty of room inside for a cameraman or another hunter.

The windows offer plenty of vision and open area for shot opportunities, however I would like to try the 360 blind in the Zero Detect when available since it gives you full 360 degree availability in sections. I have owned a popular 360 blind in the past, but found I did not like the clamshell style window that is simply pulled down all the way around. That only allows for more open areas than necessary, and more chance of being spotted! The windows and netting are mostly held in place by a bungee loop system that is completely silent opening and closing. The only window downfall I found was on the vertical windows in the corners. Velcro holds the corner windows in place and this would be the one thing I would change on this blind. But hey, for the price of this blind I can live with one flaw.

The shoot thru netting on the Turret XL also has slits for shotgun or rifle hunters, which will be a great advantage during turkey season! The inside of the blind is completely blacked out, so that helps to hide any movement inside and gives you a little freedom of movement. It also has a sewn in storage pouch inside handy for storing items such as calls, range finders, etc.

To sum up this length review I would have to say I would highly recommend trying one of the blinds from www.killzonehunting.com, be it the Turret XL or the 360.

Pros:

  • Excellent camo adaptability with the Zero Detect
  • Nice built in features such as storage bag, brush in loops and silent windows
  • Carrying bag with shoulder straps that’s actually big enough to get the blind back into!
  • Solid hub and material construction that should last many seasons if taken care of
  • Price!!

Cons:

  • Velcro on corner windows
