Finding the Right Size Gun Case
Once you decide on the type of gun case you want, it’s time to figure out what size the case needs to be.
Foam and Fit
A good fit is important in order to keep your gun from sliding around inside the case. Dense, small-cell foam holds your gun in place more securely than soft, squishy foam. It also holds its shape better over years of use.
Measurements
Measure the length of your gun from tip to end to make sure the case is long enough to fit. Most soft rifle cases are not designed to stretch, so buy the larger case if your gun is between sizes. You’ll need to know the interior size of the case. If the manufacturer lists only the exterior length, subtract an inch or two to leave enough room for the gun to fit and the zipper to close.
Scopes and Accessories
Make sure you take into account the scope, if one is mounted on your rifle, along with any other accessories. Some cases have room for scopes and some don’t, so make sure the gun case is large enough to fit a scope mounted rifle. Storage pockets on the outside are something to look for if you need room for ammunition, shooting glasses, and other extras.
If you want to fit more than one gun in the case, look for a case that can handle multiple guns. These cases are a bit more bulky and heavy, but the convenience pays off if you generally carry more than one gun with you.
